Community School Park Champions
Through community organizing, People for Parks has formed strong ties with the parents and friends who visit or live near Community School Parks. Despite living in different neighborhoods, these community members shared one common goal: to create safe places to play and connect. We used this shared goal as the basis for our Community School Park Champions Movement, or COMPAS. Through digital and grassroots activism, COMPAS members – made up of school staff, parents, neighbors and other stakeholders – have worked to:
cultivate vibrant neighborhood hubs at local CSPs
promote the benefits of CSPs, and
advocate for innovative shared use policy.
COMPAS also centralizes information about these needed hubs and it brings people together around the common goals of play, connection and community building. We look forward to re-launching COMPAS soon – stay tuned.
