Overview for Community School Parks

Community School Parks (CSPs) are supervised school-site playgrounds that are open to the public on weekends, holidays and during the summer and feature dynamic programming carried out by school staff.

In LA’s densest, most park-poor and resourced neighborhoods, school playgrounds are the only safe, welcoming spaces for youth, families and neighbors to play, connect and build community. Unfortunately, most if not all of them are locked off during non-school hours. Through a unique service agreement with the Los Angeles Unified School District, the People for Parks program unlocks playground gates in high park-need communities every weekend. We work with partner Community Based Organizations to transform these play spaces into living schoolyards, making them healthier places for students to play, grow and learn, and for the surrounding community to enjoy during non-school hours.
